Love chases us. God changes the landscape to bring forth in us quiet reverence. The stillness dawns awe. World stopping awe. You acknowledge that you are too small, too loved, to have control. A humble, restful environment forms in your mind and spirit as stillness and awe collide. The landslide does its work as you realize that every right step you have taken is a wilderness in comparison to the Creator’s hand at work.

This summer I got really, really sick for five weeks. When I was well enough to read again, I continued with Growing Slow. The book is brilliantly separated into seasons.

@jenniferdukeslee helped me realize I was in winter and that doing nothing was the season God led me to. She helped me believe something is happening even if nothing is happening. Thank you God for winter. My pace is now slower. My hopes and dreams are a little different. My view of success and harvest are much more graceful. I pay more attention to my body and soul who both need to be heard too. This is the fruit of my #quietsummer

My friend @heather_enright1 gives us great reflective questions to ask about 2020.

Here are a few of my answers:

🔵 What is essential? 🔵

I’m choosing to be kinder to my body. I need “her” strong to support my mind and soul for many more moons.

I’m thankful that more voices of color are speaking into my life. It’s been a slow, intentional process but I feel that my thoughts and views are expanding. @latashamorrison @jada_edwards @josaxton @iammiketodd @stephenrchandler @nadinearaphael

🔵 Which relationships?🔵

I’m choosing to lean into positive relationships that I normally back away from due to my occasional overwhelm. And, I’m choosing to move away from relationships that sap my energy and self worth.

We set our gaze to the end of the cycle. The end of the goal. The end of the day.

We do this for months and then years. We live. We grow. We invest. We dream.

We see good things resonate in the way we hoped. We see hard things come to pass.

Today, you may be called to pause. Don’t gloss over the hard or the happy.

These are the experiences that make up your story. Your valuable, remarkable, worthy, unforgettable story.

Maybe shed tears for both the hard and the happy. Perhaps there is strength that has been waiting to come in. Strength that needed you to remember both the hard and the happy. Before it came rushing in.

I don’t care, I love it.

It was first on a notepad that my mom bought me a few years ago when I was venturing into a new calling. That notepad is no longer in print so I cut out the quote and put it on my vision board.

Any time you’re feeling self-doubt, disappointment or questioning whether your calling makes any sense, circle back to believing in yourself. ✨

Sometimes the next best move is to keep it simple.

Sometimes the next best move is to keep it simple.

We don’t have to fully analyze the problem to pursue the solution.

We don’t have to continuously dig deep. We can call it what it is.

We don’t have to push through the emotion to get to the lesson. We can sit still.

We don’t have to finish the book we don’t really like. We can break our silly code.

We can pursue what we need in this moment and not give it away on the whim of another’s request.

We can let the sun rays pour down on our cheeks when the clock says the rest of the world is at work.

We can listen and not have answers.

We can be fully who we are whether or not that measures up in the eyes of others.

We can watch the tides come in to tell us just how much we are loved.

You are loved, and sometimes, your next best move is to keep it simple.
